We are a group of lacemakers located in Southeastern Wisconsin dedicated to the study, preservation and making of fine handmade laces. We currently have approximately 25 members centered around the Kenosha area, but have had members as far away as California and Arizona! We were chartered by the I.O.L.I. (International Old Lacers, Inc.) in 1983. In 2008, we were 25 years old!
In addition to making lace, we do our best to educate others about our passion. Here one of our members is showing a group of beginners the wonders of bobbin lacemaking. In just a few short hours they were able to complete a sampler that could be used as a bookmark.
We meet on the second Saturday of the month at either the Northside Library or the Southwest Library in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Field trips and special events are a part of our program, so contacting us is advised before planning to attend one of our meetings. You can reach us at 262-694-1372. We are looking forward to hearing from you. You can also contact us via email at: pfrieman@wi.rr.com. ALL are welcome to our meetings - experienced or aspiring lacemakers - one and all - come join us.
Each March, Lighthouse Lacers do a window display and Open House at the Northside Library in Kenosha.
We also decorate and donate a Christmas Tree to Hospice Alliance every other year. Our club members make handmade lace ornaments to adorn a five-foot tree. Hospice Alliance then raffles off the tree. In the past, they have realized up to $1,500! With everyone's help making ornaments as well as selling raffle tickets, we will try to beat our previous record. One of our members was lucky enough to win the 2006 tree! We will gratefully accept donations of ornaments from non-member lacemakers. Just contact us for further information.
We have members that specialize in several different types of lacemaking, including, but not limited to: Bobbin, Tatting, Needle, Netting, Battenburg, Knitting, Crocheting, Hardanger and Carrickmacross. Each year at the end of October / beginning of November, the Club sponsors a Lacemakers' Weekend. A club member graciously agrees to share her knowledge with other club members, and puts on a weekend seminar, teaching her specialty. Utilizing our collective knowledge, we are able to offer a weekend seminar at no more than the cost of the food and lodging.
Here's some photos of our 2012 retreat and the Mediterranean Knotted Lace we were learning.
Don't we look like a happy bunch after 2 days of lacemaking?
